About the Role

Prendio is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our engineering team, reporting to ourEngineering Manager. You'll build and maintain core procurement functionality across a Play/Scala and Spring Boot service tier, a React front end, and Python-based data and AI workloads — working on features end-to-end, from design through production. AI is part of how this team builds software day to day: you'll use AI code-generation tools as a standard part of your workflow, and you'll help extend our platform with agentic AI capabilities.

This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership: contributing to active modernization efforts (framework upgrades, legacy runtime migration), improving reliability, and setting technical direction alongside the team rather than just executing tickets. You'll also help junior engineers grow, through code review, pairing, and technical mentorship.

What You'll Do

AI-Assisted Engineering & Agentic AI

• Use AI code-generation tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) as a standard part of your daily development workflow.

• Design and build agentic AI features for our SaaS platform — contributing to services such as our Python/FastAPI/LangGraph/LangChain-based AI orchestrator.

• Help evolve engineering practices and tooling as AI-assisted development matures, sharing patterns that work with the rest of the team.

Feature Development

• Design and build features across our procurement platform, working in Java/Scala (Play Framework) and Java/Spring Boot services, plus our React/TypeScript front end.

• Write and review acceptance criteria for enhancements alongside Product, and translate them into a technical implementation plan.

• Work with relational and document databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) to design schema changes and write performant queries.

Modernization & Technical Debt

• Contribute to active migration efforts — including framework upgrades (e.g., off pre-GA or end-of-support Spring Boot versions) and legacy runtime modernization (e.g., Java 8 to Java 17).

• Identify and help retire technical debt before it becomes a production incident, in partnership with the DevSecOps team.

• Participate in architecture and design review for changes with meaningful technical or operational risk.

Quality, CI/CD & Reliability

• Write automated tests and participate in CI/CD pipelines as a first-class part of delivering a feature, not an afterthought.

• Triage and resolve production issues, partnering with QA and DevSecOps during release readiness and incident response.

• Review pull requests and mentor other engineers, helping raise the bar on code quality and system design across the team.

What We're Looking For

Required

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production web applications.

• Firm requirement: demonstrated, hands-on experience using AI code-generation tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) as part of your regular development workflow.

• Experience designing or building agentic AI solutions for a SaaS product (e.g., LLM-orchestrated workflows using frameworks such as LangGraph or LangChain).

• Strong experience in Java and/or Scala; comfort working in JVM-based frameworks (Spring Boot and/or Play Framework).

• Experience building and consuming REST APIs, and working with relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) in production.

• Experience with front-end development in React and TypeScript, or willingness to work full-stack as needed.

• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing as part of the standard development workflow.

• Track record of leading or contributing significantly to a technical migration or modernization effort (framework upgrade, runtime migration, or similar).

• Strong code review and mentorship instincts — comfortable giving and receiving direct technical feedback.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Python, especially in data or AI/ML-adjacent services.

• Experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes (EKS or equivalent).

• Familiarity with AWS services (RDS, Lambda, ECR) from an application-engineering perspective.

• Experience working in a SOC 2 or similarly compliance-driven environment.
