The Department of Applied Linguistics and Educational Studies at the American University in Cairo welcomes applications for Assistant / Associate professor, non-tenure track appointment in Educational Leadership and Administration - K-12 / School Leadership, with potential emphases in organizational theory, policy, finance, student development, teaching and learning, instructional leadership, and / or teacher professional development. Responsibilities for this position include teaching graduate and undergraduate level coursework, supervising master's theses, advising students, and participating in various educational reform efforts. A comparative and international education context is highly encouraged, especially for developing countries or countries in the Arab world. This position also poses the opportunity for course buy-out with successful grant- and donor-sponsored teacher and school leader professional development activities. The initial appointment of four years is renewable after successful review.
About the Department of Applied Linguistics and Educational Studies :
The Department is currently at a stage of change and growth, seeking to expand in scope and depth. The Department currently offers MA programs in both Applied Linguistics (TAFL and TESOL), and in Educational Studies (International & Comparative Education and Educational Leadership). It also offers graduate diplomas in Inclusive Education (jointly offered with the Psychology Department) and in both TAFL and TESOL. Moreover, the department offers an undergraduate minor in Linguistics, in Educational Studies, and a Professional Educator Program (PED).In the area of Educational Studies, the department is a pacesetter for innovations in education and has been engaged in supporting reform at the national and regional levels. It has been at the forefront of designing models of good practices that are then scaled. This is mostly led by the Middle East Institute for Higher Education housed in the department. Through its significant work in support of reform, the department and its faculty have wide and diverse partnerships and networks for research and program implementation. The department is home to international faculty and students.
Requirements :
Candidates must have a completed, earned doctorate in educational leadership, or a closely related area, and should have a strong teaching, research and practitioner leadership record. A successful candidate needs to demonstrate administration expertise with past or potential interest in contributing extensively to educational reform in Egypt, the Middle East in general, and other developing countries. Knowledge of and interest in the region is an advantage.
